Worked examples

Supplier Spreadsheet to Shopify CSV

A supplier file covering 3 products and 8 variants was mapped into a proposed Shopify CSV. The workflow preserved SKU 000201 and confirmed price values, with a clear source-to-output mapping.

A missing price blocked the first run. A separately supplied correction in a new source version allowed the batch to pass local checks. The original file stayed unchanged.

Delivery materials include the field mapping, proposed CSV, change log and exceptions report.

All products are draft and unpublished. Decimal commas become decimal points without rounding or conversion. Product-level facts appear on the first variant row. Do not import this synthetic example into a live store.

How the mapping and changes are recorded

Item code becomes SKU. Style code groups the variants and Approved URL supplies the handle. Retail amount is the confirmed selling price; Wholesale amount is explicitly excluded. Colour and Size use the approved Color and Size option labels. Explicit yes/no values become TRUE/FALSE.

GTIN digits are preserved with a gtin: prefix, and descriptions are escaped as plain HTML paragraphs. No product facts are researched or invented. The delivery records source rows, before/after values, the mapping version and source/output checksums.

Exact output: 1397 bytes. SHA-256: 3e2fd343b0c0f847c08669cc4ab6fa836ee9af5d1596c84265ae6e562767e2bc. The current template's Variant Barcodes header still needs native acceptance verification. Shipping weights, inventory and other omitted fields require review in the destination store.

Product and Variant Mapping

One product group with 6 supplied colour and size variants was mapped into a proposed Shopify CSV. SKUs 000301 to 000306 and supplied USD24.90 prices were preserved.

A separate duplicate-SKU case blocked the batch. No row was silently deleted and no replacement identifier was invented. The mapping and issues report make the source relationships reviewable.

Product Data Quality Review

The initial check identified 5 error entries across 4 fields, including a missing title, duplicate SKU, unclear price and missing shipping flag.

After one explicit price correction, 4 errors across 3 fields remained. The report identified the affected source rows and decisions needed. The batch stayed blocked and no import CSV was produced.

File preparation, with clear limits

One agreed file and layout. Confirmed product information and one declared store currency. No currency conversion, live store import, stock sync, product research, images or PDF/OCR processing. We agree the output and deadline before work begins. A variant counts as a row.

Native Shopify import and store readback have not yet been validated for this workflow. You review the prepared file and control the import.
